speech and clothing to computers. For three
thousand years, all human technologies have
been fragmentary extensions of the human body.
The electric extension of the central nervous
system has never occurred before, and therefore,
we are without any navigational chart
whatsoever. Mechanical systems are not closed in
the way that electric ones are. As we push our
electric technology it will flip open in the form of
corporate consciousness. The present interim is
baffling because it has a closed character, with
